Our future is screwed, people! Robots run rampant, the sun don't shine, and quaint town gatherings resemble S&M conventions. At least that's how our favorite dystopian movies see it...

Recently, someone encouraged me to write a few science fiction pieces with a positive outlook, maybe because there is a dominance of dystopian science fiction; a preponderance of horror and gloom within the genre. I get told that science fiction is often too gloomy in its outlook, needlessly creating bleak visions of the future as if to deter our civilization's progress. We only need to name a few examples among movies for this to seem true: Blade Runner (1982), The Terminator (1984), Minority Report (2002), and a world of others. The conclusion is that writers of science fiction have consistently tried to send out warnings about where our civilization is going and we have ended up with a barrage of dystopian science fiction.

Negative studio notes on "Blade Runner" from 1982, proving that many Hollywood execs clearly don't know anything at all
Source: www.slashfilm.com
Top Ten omissions from the list:
1. The title "Blade Runner" is confusing. He uses a gun. Change it to "Gun Runner."
2. Deckard needs to wear a hat. Perhaps a baseball hat. In fact, they should all wear baseball hats.
3. The Vangelis music sounds too much like Vangelis.
4. Where is Darrell and his other brother Darrell?
5. I don't get the whole unicorn thing.
6. It's too rainy. This is L.A. There should be sunshine!
7. Leon needs more screen time.
8. We should have Marty Feldman do the voice over instead.
9. The owl was good.
10. I thought "Ridley" was his last name.

One of its most compelling settings in BladeRunner is this Frank Lloyd Wright architectural masterpiece from 1924. The Ennis House, also known as the Ennis-Brown House, serves as Deckard's home and — true to the future predicted in Blade Runner — the mansion began falling into disrepair after the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

This shot of Deckard arriving home is an altered image of the drive up to the very unusual Ennis Brown House in the Hollywood Hills. The all-concrete Mayan design home doubles for the blade runner's apartment, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
