The deal-making at the Cannes festival this year is being driven by two franchises that few people think of as independent films: the Twilight and Hunger Games series. Indie blockbuster franchises aren't common. In fact, there had previously been only one, but its parallels to these modern franchises reflect a new major shift in independent distribution.
